Lotus Training Scheme - The Experience

What is it like to be on the Lotus Training Scheme?

My career started as a mature student when I completed an access course and then gained a place at the University of Edinburgh reading mechanical engineering. This was where my interest in engine research was sparked, and I continued with post-graduate study at Edinburgh after gaining my MEng. I applied to Lotus after hearing about the positive experiences of a fellow undergraduate who had carried out a placement in Hethel, Norfolk. Lotus' cutting-edge expertise in vehicle and engine research is what initially attracted me to the company. Their business size is also appealing, being a globally recognised car manufacturer and engineering consultancy, while being small enough to allow me to gain responsibility quickly within the company. On top of all that, the Lotus location in the Norfolk countryside is ideally placed for access to London and the European mainland. Liz Overend

Lotus appealed to me because of its excellent reputation and heritage within the engineering field. The rotation scheme that was offered also presented the opportunity for me to witness many different departments within the business. Grant Cairnie

I am an Australian who threw in the beautiful Australian sunshine and beaches to come and work for Lotus. Why? I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and a desire to work in the Automotive Industry. I chose to join the Lotus Graduate Scheme because Lotus builds an exciting, international product and yet the company is still intimate enough to offer a tailored course that provides the best opportunities to learn a diverse range of engineering skills. Karen Jackel

After finishing my degree, I achieved my childhood dream by working at Lotus. I have always admired how Lotus applies innovative solutions to both Lotus cars and consultant works. Krisada Kritayakirana

I decided to work at Lotus because it is a consultancy, with an excellent reputation for innovation, new technologies, and fast paced varied work. Working for Lotus, one of the most prestigious names in motoring history, gives me the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of the automotive industry. John Lamb

I have recently graduated from Bournemouth University with a BA (Hons) Business Studies degree; I also studied German to that level. While completing my fourth year at University, I applied to Lotus for the graduate scheme, I have always wanted to work for Lotus for many reasons including; the heritage, the name and my personal interest in the cars. Kim Palmer

My choice to join Lotus was influenced by the flexibility of the MPDS scheme, which has allowed me to advance my experience in all fields of automotive engineering leading to Chartership in 4 years time. Lotus' project variety has taken me through many aspects of modern engineering, from project managing Lotus' Soapbox entry in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, to being an integral member of a challenging new vehicle project. I look forward to working on new exciting projects over the coming year. James Setter

I applied to Lotus whilst finishing my degree at Imperial College. The Lotus scheme offers me the opportunity not only to learn more about cars and their design, but also to acquire the extra skills that are required for this kind of work, not having read Mechanical Engineering. Although still in my first year on the scheme, I have already gained a lot of experience and enjoy the work very much. Sam Coleman
